Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to your data when you use Scanlooks (“we,” “us”), available at scanlooks.com. The short version: your files never leave your browser.

Your files

Scanlooks processes every PDF and image entirely client-side, using your browser’s Canvas API. Your file is never uploaded to a server, never transmitted over the network, and never stored by us in any form. We have no way to see, access, or retain the documents or images you work with.

Local storage

We store a single value in your browser’s localStorage to remember your light/dark theme preference. This value stays on your device, is never transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

Cookies & analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand overall site traffic, such as which pages are visited and how many people use Scanlooks. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects standard usage data (like your approximate location, device and browser type, and pages viewed) — it does not have access to the files you process, since those never leave your browser. You can learn more about how Google handles this data in the Google Privacy Policy, and opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. We do not use advertising cookies or any other third-party tracking.

Hosting & server logs

Scanlooks is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like virtually all web hosting providers, Cloudflare may log standard technical request data (such as IP address, browser type, and request timestamps) for security, performance, and abuse-prevention purposes, governed by Cloudflare’s own privacy policy. Since your files are never uploaded, they cannot appear in these logs.

Children’s privacy

Scanlooks is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of Scanlooks after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
